Peter Lyons

Just prior to leaving National Grid Transco, Peter was involved in a wide range of strategic and general management activities in IT, Telecommunications & Finance, his final post being that of Director of Finance for Gridcom. From these activities he has a detailed understanding of Telecom and IT strategies and technical solutions.

He has substantial line management capability and strategic insights into the new technologies and capabilities of the future economies. His roles have been in areas of significant change as Transco implemented the gas liberalisation systems and policies that have shaped the whole gas industry in the UK.

Peter has also been responsible for the development of Transco strategy for its future systems with particular focus on E interfaces for customers and interactions with the mobile workforce. His lead role in the development of a viable new wireless business provided him with a very detailed technical and commercial understanding of the end-to-end mobile telephone market.

He has extensive experience of regulation and has been involved in regulatory reviews and Monopolies & Mergers Commission (MMC) referrals at a very senior level. Peter had joint responsibility for strategy and negotiation with the Regulator and attended the MMC hearing alongside the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and CEO.

Peter's earlier career has been within the gas industry, predominately at the strategic/operational level and he has been involved in all the major structural changes that have taken place over the last ten years within National Grid Transco, formerly Transco. This required a detailed understanding of the gas industry and the organizational/systems structures and operations.

His business understanding, capabilities and performance meant that he was regularly asked to work on major business initiatives working with Executive Directors and Board members over a period in excess of 10 years.
